The Bedford Slims brand aesthetic is inspired by the golden age of cinema, classic cigarette advertising, and the time-honoured tradition of relaxation. Let's face it - smoking is not just something we do. It is a complete lifestyle choice like tanning, or going to the gym, drinking coffee, or backyard wrestling - it's what makes us us. Therefore, we need not to deviate from the experience, but rather celebrate it. After all, Bedford Slims vapourettes are an update to a product that has been around for thousands of years, the least we could do is make the promotional video entertaining.
The challenge I brought to my director, Tiombe, was to help us produce an homage to this groundbreaking new technology in the vein of our favorite Film Noir directors, namely Jean-Luc Goddard and David Lynch. A classic on-foot chase scene became the vehicle's sole plot. The whole thing was shot on a shoestring budget of $1,700 dollars the day before Halloween.
It's been nearly eight months since we launched "The Beginning" on Youtube. Thanks to our improved website we can finally air it right here. So, enjoy. And let me know what you think.
